Federal agents at Newark Liberty International Airport have arrested four people they say tried to smuggle $5 million worth of heroin into the United States by hiding the drugs in candy bars.
A total of more than 12 pounds of heroin was found divided into pellets that were placed in over 100 candy bars, which were then individually wrapped and packaged, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Friday.
Customs and the DEA discovered the drugs during a routine inspection of luggage, after the man arrived from Ecuador. 4 men were arrested in all. They also seized a 2002 BMW X5 in connection with the case.
These smugglers are getting pretty crafty. I wonder what brand of candy bar it was. They most have had special machines to professionally package the bars. Another case where you can't help thinking, what if, somehow, a child got a hold of one of these. A good bust.
