Amar al-Hakim claims that U.S. troops assaulted him, Shiite's are outraged.
Today (Friday) U.S. troops have arrested the son of Iraq's most powerful Shiite leader's son as he returned to the country from Iran.
Amar al-Hakim is the son of Shiite politician and leader Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim and was taken into custody at a crossing point, along with all of his security guards. They are all currently being held at a U.S. facility in Kut.
Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim, who is the leader of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, the country's largest Shiite party with longtime ties to Iran met with President Bush at the White House in December and is a very powerful man.
Amar al-Hakim claims that U.S. troops assaulted him but has given no specific details. Shiite's are in an outrage, saying that the message the U.S. is sending by doing this is a negative one.
"We have made urgent contacts with the offices of the president and the prime minister as well as the Americans. The Americans told us the detention was a mistake that will be rectified, but nothing happened until now," Moalah told The Associated Press.
