Nintendo Wii sold 436,000 units in January according to NPD, with Xbox 360 selling 294,000 units and PlayStation 3 hitting 244,000.
Newly released figures indicate that the Wii considerably outsold the Xbox 360 and PS3 in January. Within the US market, the Wii sold 436,000 units, Xbox 360 294,000 and the PS3 sold a lowly 244,000 units. The figures have yet to be validated by NPD and it's worth mentioning that while the Xbox 360 and PS3 were widely available, the Wii was scarcely available and acheived such high sales.
"Perrin Kaplan, vice president of marketing for Nintendo said, “I do think that we're selling to additional and different customers," compared with the Microsoft and Sony consoles. We've had an incredibly healthy start and we think there's going to be a pretty long tail on this product."
