Steve Ballmer, Microsoft blames software piracy for poor Vista Sales.
THE SHY and retiring, softly-spoken CEO of Microsoft, Steve "Sounds of Silence" Ballmer is blaming software pirates for Vista's poor sales.
Ballmer admitted to financial analysts that the predictions for Vista had proved 'overly optimistic' and he blamed the pirates in China, India, Brazil, Russia and other emerging markets.
Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, says the Vista sales are not high because of Software piracy in China, Russia, India, Brazil and other countries. He says Microsoft is planning to increase the intensity of Windows Genuine Advantage to gain more revenue from developing countries.
Ballmer believes another way is to add more control measures to stop piracy. "Piracy reduction can be a source of Windows revenue growth, and I think we'll make some piracy improvements this year."
He said that there is a software built in Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA), it could be dialled up from a far away outside source by the Microsoft Vole and effectively erase it.
The author says the Vista sales is going down not only because of piracy but also due to the fact that many users still use XP and are not planning to use Vista for the time being. With this Windows Genuine Advantage it will make their life a misery. If Microsoft still wants to add more protection in WGA it may backfire.
Just one word to Steve Ballmer, make it user friendly. What do you think about Ballmer's views, is piracy the real problem for Vista's poor sales or something else?
