A MySpace forum search you say...what exactly is that???

If you have ever had the pleasure of frequenting the darling of the online networking portal sites also known as MySpace, and have wandered aimlessly or intentionally in the Forum section, you may have noticed a serious deficiency.

The biggest online community portal is lacking any kind of search feature to quickly pinpoint discussions on any specific topic of interest.

I became a member sometime in the summer of 2006 and quickly became aware of the fact that this was one of the most requested features made by the MySpace community.

So rather than browse several thousand threads, one by one, to see if the same problem I was having had been previously covered, I decided to go ahead and build my own forum search function.

Its now featured at the top-right corner of my MySpace profile. Its also become a pinned topic on several areas of the MySpace Forums (see "Full story" link above).

Since Oct of 2006, there have been over 50,000 searches conducted using this search feature across several installed instances of the search script.

It was recently updated to also search on post made by MySpace members through their numeric friend ID.

Updates are beta tested in the blog area of my profile before they are made a permanent part of the search function.

Several FireFox version 2.0 extensions being used by the MySpace community to protect them against malicious scripts have also incorporated the search function, including a neat little extension called MySpaceMozilla.

Ideas and suggestions are also first road tested through a private group setup inside of the MySpace site, and includes members with interests that range from seeking new feature enhancements right through to idea sharing to benefit MySpace members and the online community at large.

I searched and didn't see any mention in DJ.com about this feature. Being that I'm the person who built the search function, I was somewhat apprehensive about posting this myself as I didn't want to leave the impression that I might be grandstanding.

This post was meant more to continue on with the spirit of sharing this much needed resource with the MySpace community, specifically those who frequent the MySpace forums. If you know any MySpacers, be linky on this one.
