A judge in Italy has ordered a 13 year old girl to abort her unborn child because her parents were opposed to the baby.
Italian legislation states that a minor is not allowed to decide whether to abort or not and the 'decision' falls entirely on the guardians or parents.
What I get from this is that the child can't decide to have an abortion without the parents/guardians permission, not that if a child does get pregnant the child has to have an abortion. Having a 13 year old daughter this situation had me wonder what I would do if I was in the position of these parents.
Not knowing many of the circumstances, I can only go with the basics. She was so upset about the decision to have to abort, to the point of then being suicidal. Was it right for the courts to give no option but to abort the baby. I have always hated the question of whether I am pro-life, because when it boils right down to it there are far too many factors involved to say yes or no.
If the option has to be put down to not keeping the baby than I could understand the choice of aborting or adopting - but it just seems that forcing a 'woman', which in this case even at 13 being able to become pregnant puts her in that category, to have their choice made for them is sad.
