With our current system about 1/3 of the population rules the country. I’m disgusted with having to vote in a constituency that always returns 70% conservative. This petition would allow the vote you and I caste to influence the character of parliam
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, draw the attention of the House of Commons to the following:
THAT Canada’s current electoral system, a plurality-majority (or first-past-the-post) system is overly generous to the party that wins a plurality of the vote, unfairly rewarding it with a legislative majority disproportionate to its share of the vote;
THAT this electoral system allows the governing party, with its artificially swollen legislative majority, to dominate the political agenda;
THAT the current system was created at a time when women, Aboriginal people, and non- property owners were disenfranchised; and this system still contributes to the under- representation of women, minority groups and Aboriginals;
