When locals bought the Nipigon mill, things looked brighter. Then came the fire.
"this month with a spectacular fire that burned the mill to the ground. The blaze roared all day, and flames shot into the sky at night; firefighters drained the reservoir trying to extinguish it. Mill workers, whose houses are on a hill overlooking the town, could sit in their living rooms and watch the inferno. Some closed their curtains; it was too terrible a scene.
The community is still waiting for the fire marshal's report. But foul play is not suspected, and Boucher says it's believed the cause was a faulty hydraulic hose."
The town spent a lot of money on this mill. Then for just this to happen is a damn shame. This mil put this small little northern Ontario town on the map, and now its burnt down right from its roots. Now the people of Nipigon may be not known anymore, becuase of their beloved monument has been torn to pieces.
