"t's known, ominously, as the Doomsday Vault.
But it could be the world's safety net if a global catastrophe – extreme climate change, natural disaster, even nuclear war – ever destroys the planet's food sources.
Far inside an Arctic mountain, the vault will still be there, containing the foundation for all of the agriculture developed by mankind over the past 10,000 years.
That means seeds, millions of seeds, 3 million to start with, from every variety of food from every country on Earth.
They will be sealed inside a high-tech cavern carved 120 metres into a sandstone mountain on the remote, ice-bound island of Spitsbergen. Part of the Svalbard archipelago, it sits midway between mainland Norway and the North Pole."
Wow. Out of all the articles I have written lately, I would say this is the most interesting to me. I can not believe that they are actually doing this. Making a vault inside a mountain of SEEDS, yes seeds you heard right, that have been up to 10,000 years old. This is going to cost a lot of money to do, but when the world crashes over, it will be worth it.
3 million of each seed. I wonder how big this vault is going to be. Are they only going to use it for seeds? What else will they put in it. If there ever is a nuclear war in the future will it be used for a hide out to stay safe? God forbid there would actually be a Nuclear war.. It is so pointless.
But... Until next time,
Lemery
