A drug named Viagra saved premature baby's life
Lewis Goodfellow was born at 24 weeks in August 2004 at about weighing just 1lb 8oz. at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary . One of his lungs had failed and not enough oxygen was able to get into his bloodstream. Doctors told the parents that they can't give him any more oxygen. The parents were depressed and at one stage planned for the baby's funeral.
As a last hope doctors tried Sildenafil also called as Viagra. This drug helped to open the tiny blood vessels in the lungs and the baby is saved.
Parents are very happy. Mother is not able to express her happiness and thanked all the doctors in the hospital for surviving her kid. She also told "The doctors are worth their weight in gold. We admire each and every one of them for what they have done."
