"U.S. shares of DaimlerChrysler AG jumped more than four per cent today after a trade publication reported that General Motors Corp. is in talks to acquire the troubled Chrysler Group.
GM and Chrysler Group officials would not comment on the report by Automotive News, which attributed the story to people in Germany and the U.S. whom it did not identify.
DaimlerChrysler stock rose US$2.85, or 4.06 per cent, to $73.10 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange. GM stock rose 20 cents, or 0.55 per cent, to $36.64.
Earlier in the day, newspaper reports said DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group and GM have held discussions for about six months about a possible alliance related to large sport utility vehicles."
" The automakers have declined to comment on reports of talks.
Chrysler already has alliances with GM, including one to develop gasoline-electric hybrid engine technology.
Last year, GM was in talks with Nissan Motor Co. and Renault SA on creating an automaking alliance, but those were called off in October. Those talks have nothing to do with the Chrysler talks, the Times reported."
Those were some of the important things I thought I should point out in this article. Good for General Motors though, I hate Chrysler with a passion. They have the WORST car logo ever, and I dislike their vehicles. However, maybe I am just going crazy out of all the individuals who do like Chrysler. Since they're stock has rose up a small percert, maybe they are doing something the consumer likes.
