article imageIce Flies Off Tractor-Trailer, Through SUV's Windshield

You see it on the roads all of the time after a winter storm. Jeanine Jewell saw it Thursday, and she was almost decapitated as a result, NBC 10's Tim Furlong reported. "I saw a huge sheet of ice flying off the top of a tractor-trailer," Jewell said.
The Gwynedd Valley resident was on her way to meet a friend for lunch, traveling east on the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Fort Washington and Willow Grove exits.
The ice flew up off a truck headed in the opposite direction.
"I saw the ice fly up. It was the other side of the highway, and it just came at me. It looked like an asteroid rolling and coming at my car," she said.
It did a number on her BMW SUV. The ice went right through the windshield on the passenger side.
"If I had a friend in the car, they would not be here today," she said.
She ducked out of the way just in time and kept control somehow. It forced the windshield into the backseat with such force that the back door opened. She has a sore neck and a bump. That's it. She is lucky to be alive. People need to clean the ice from their vehicles for this very reason. It is a finable offense, but is rarely enforced.
