Speed Racer is off to Germany. The big-screen, live-action version of the classic toon will film at Studio Babelsberg. Production begins in May.
The film will be directed by the Wachowski brothers, the producers of V for Vendetta (which also lensed at Studio Babelsberg), while Joel Silver is producing. Vince Vaughn is attached to co-star as the title character's brother, Racer X, and will also function in a producing capacity on the film.
I don't have high hopes for this project. Not that Speed Racer is very exciting to begin with. But who knows, if it is good it might make me a fan. It was a cool cartoon to watch as a young kid, I just can't see a whole movie based on it.
