Man who accosted gas thief may go to jail

Even the thief he accosted is defending his actions.

A 74 year old man confronted a man and a woman for stealing gas from a car. He chased off the thieves with an unloaded shotgun. For protecting himself from, as his lawyer points out, " a guy who he thought was a drug-crazed meth-head," he was charged with felony assault. Those charges were just dropped to two misdemeanors: pointing a gun at another person and disorderly conduct. Even the thief is defending his actions: “I don’t think he should be held responsible for, you know, anything involving any of these issues,” Smith said. “I committed a crime and, you know, he did what he probably thought was right to ... resolve the situation.”
