The major metropolitan cities in the US have the highest percentage of identity theft...no surprise there...that's where the money is!
A study was performed from an indentity fraud prevention company in San Diego, CA where they studied the number of attempts made for identity fraud all over the country.
The top ten states on the list of attempted identity theft in order are:
1) New York
2) California
3) Nevada
4) Arizona
5) Illinois
6) Hawaii
7) Oregon
8) Michigan
9) Washington
10) Texas
Many of the attempts were focused around certain zip codes, suggesting that there are organized groups of identity theives.
The top 2 zip codes were Queens, New York, and Faulkton, South Dakota.
Hopefully this data will be used to trigger a security movement in all the nation as it is becoming a widespread issue.
