Mountain Lion Attack Victim To Go Home On Valentine's Day

by Carolyn E. Price.
Man recovers from attack by mountain lion to go home to his wife of 50 years on Valentine's Day.
Update to: this story and this story.

Almost a month ago, Jim Hamm was attacked and seriously wounded by a mountain lion while he was out hiking with his wife in the Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. His wife valiantly fought the lion off by stabbing it with a ballpoint pen and bashing it over the head with a branch.

A spokeswoman for California Pacific Medical Center said Hamm had recovered to the point that he was able to walk around and talk with his wife Monday.

Last week, the couple celebrated 50 years of marriage together in the hospital. Today, Jim's wife Nell will be taking her hubby home for Valentine's Day.

"I'm very thankful Jim is alive, that's my number one thought. At the time, I couldn't see how he would survive this," said Hamm's wife Nell. "He probably won't be gardening and hiking for a while, but knowing Jim, it won't be that long before he's about walking around the neighborhood. I'm ready to go home and concentrate on getting Jim well and getting our lives back. That's number one in my mind."

The assemblywoman who represents the Hamm's hometown of Fortuna, Calif., has nominated Nell Hamm as "woman of the year for taking action in the face of danger". Nell says that she's flattered by the nomination but she's just not used to all the attention. She also said that she and Jim will continue to take care of each other for the rest of their lives.

I was so glad to come across this article today as the last I had heard was that his condition was worsening. This is great ending for this story.
