I gave a Homeless Kid a Camera

By Chris V. Thangham     Feb 11, 2007 in Lifestyle
A Homeless kid was given a camera to encourage him and the kid takes some nice pictures.
A few years ago, I gave a camera and some film to a homeless kid I had befriended while visiting some family in San Luis Obispo CA. He had been thrown out of his parents house for drugs a month ago, and been crashing with friends, generally bumming around the central coast since then.
The author, Jeefers is the username he goes by, of this article gave the kid a Fujica 35mm Camera and gave him some instructions how to use the manual camera. He also requested the kid to mail the photos and let him keep the camera. He thought he will never hear from the kid, but the kid seemed to be interested in photography so instead wanted to cheer him by giving the camera. He didn't hear from the kid for some time.
The author a few months ago received a large envelope of photos in the mail including a letter describing what the kid has been doing for the last fewer years. Some photos were not taken properly but there are some good ones in his link above.
The site is not loading properly because it exceeded its website bandwidth capacity. You can however see it here.
Nice story of inspiring a less fortunate. Only if the kid had been given some opportunities and encouragement could have made a decent living instead of being homeless.
