RCMP say they may order the evacuation of a small portion of Surrey to clean up a site strewn with containers of toxic chemicals thought to be linked to illicit drug labs.
They expect to evacute the area within a block radius on Friday because a contractor digging up the area with a backhoe found 45-gallon drums and other containers filled with chemicals. The containers broke and the chemicals mixed together and a cloud formed as high as a telephone pole and a quarter of a block long.
making the man sick and had to be taken to the hospital.
The police suspect the chemicals to be muriatic acid, caustic acid, red phosphorous and sodium hydroxide. All these chemicals are linked with drugs. They have six to 10 garbage bags of an unknown solid chemical and 10 to 12 five-gallon buckets of a liquid. There are also a number of 45 gallon drums.
Another site was found as well with similar contents in it and police think it is a dump site for a crystal meth laboratory.
