Injured Uninsured Tornado Victim Can’t Get Medical Help

By onemoretime     Feb 8, 2007 in Environment
Central Florida tornado victim can't get medical help to rebuild her face.
Debbie Mangold sustained injuries to her face that include a fractured nose and eye sock. She can't get the medical help she needs.
An Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist told her daughter that her mother needs surgery that will take bone from her hip to rebuild her face. In addition to these injuries she also is suffering from nightmares as a result of the disaster her and her daughter were a victim of.
Unfortunately, Mangold has no medical insurance and was sent home from the hospital with pain killers and eye drops because she has no way to pay for the surgery she needs and the injuries are considered none life threatening.
Mangold’s trailer, which was a total loss, was luckily covered by insurance. Mangold and her family feel that not receiving the medical attention she needs is adding insult to injury.
FEMA is offering $28,000 to the victims and since her trailer was covered by insurance I am wondering why she is not taking the FEMA aid to cover her medical needs.
