The Russian Orthodox Church has expressed indignation at an attempt to sell a skull and bone allegedly belonging to Saint Philip.
A Russian website is advertising the sale of what it claims to be the skull and bones of Saint Phillip.
It described the relic as "remains of an Orthodox saint, in good condition, with an inscription on the cranium confirming the saint's name". The church has yet to confirm the authenticity of the relic, but calls the sale 'immoral' and 'blasphemous'.
The relic has a fetching price of around a $1000 euros and has found little interest in the 18 months it has been up for sale. That has changed since the condemnation by the church. "My phone has been ringing all day today," Mr Georgiev said on Monday. "I have to disappoint potential bidders: the relic is no longer on sale. This morning, the owner called me to say she'd changed her mind."said the seller Boris Georgiev. The relic had been salvaged after he collapse of the Soviet Union from a museum.
