Walmart enters Movie Download business with major networks signing an agreement with it.
After dabbling in movie download tests, Walmart is now jumping into the movie and television download business head first, and will launch their new site later today at walmart.com/videodownloads.
This is an extremely crowded market already, although Walmart has locked up deals with all of the major studios - Walt Disney, Warner Brothers, Paramount, Sony, 20th Century Fox and Universal. See the chart included in this post for the studio deals locked up by other movie download services - CinemaNow, MovieLink and Amazon Unbox all have similar deals as well. iTunes and other competitors don’t.
I tried to check the link of
Walmart to see how it works, the link is broken and it is awful in appearance with poor web design. However, they already have agreements with all the major TV Network producers such as Fox, CW and Viacom’s MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, Logo and VH1. Techcrunch Editor saw this site earlier when it worked, he said the prices of the movies will be $10 to $20, and television shows will be $2 per episode. It requires a Windows PC, doesn't know it will work with Mac. The television shows downloads are dominated by iTunes, wonder why other Networks don't have agreements with iTunes who are doing a tremendous job.
If the price of movies is between $10 to $20 why would we buy a download instead of DVD? Do you think Wallmart will become successful in this movie download business? They tried movie renting business before, but failed to make an impact sold their business share to Netflix.
This is how it looks in Firefox, thanks to
Worlejyt hint Walmart Site works fine with Internet Explorer and Opera.
