Phoney Prescriptions Another Sign of Drug Problem

By acehigh409     Feb 2, 2007 in Health
Some pharmacies in British Columbia have been the recipients of high quality forged prescriptions for narcotics.
"An outbreak of high-quality forged prescriptions for painkillers across the Lower Mainland has prompted a warning and some new rules for B.C. pharmacists.
The majority of fake prescriptions are for Oxycontin, a highly addictive painkiller."
The issue has necessitated that the College of Pharmacists change the processes for having prescriptions filled. When faced with a client they do not know, pharmacists in BC will now ask for two pieces of ID (including a photo) and contact the patient's doctor for confirmation.
The literature that I have read about Oxycontin indicates that it is highly addictive. Unless we can find more ways to help those who are addicted to this drug and others, we are almost certain to find that people will continue to find ways to obtain it illegally.
