Long Life Span in Flies Reversed By Just Whiff of Food

By RobotGod     Feb 1, 2007 in Technology
Flies on a diet live much longer than flies that are allowed to eat all they want.
A small whiff of food shortens their lives again. The tested flies that were on restricted rations only. Smell and lifespan...A very interesting connection.
During famines, for instance, they could put more their energy into repairing their bodies and living longer.
But when a cornucopia of food abounds, the animals put their energy into making babies.
That makes sense. The body is assigning importance of function based on environmental conditions. This kind of research could really help with weight loss AND one could see how down the road birth control might even tie in with this research.
