Multiple Sclerosis Study

By acehigh409     Jan 30, 2007 in Health
Researchers studying the onset, progression, and severity of multiple sclerosis have noticed patterns among family members.
"Family members with multiple sclerosis are likely to develop the disease at similar ages, but the severity may differ, new research suggests."
The article goes on to indicate that researchers have also seen a pattern of similar progression amongst siblings but not between parent and child.
While the causes of MS are unknown, the article speculates that genetic and environmental factors may play a role.
Also unknown is why family members develop the disease at similar ages. Hopefully, further research will shed some light on this and bring researchers closer to a cure.
