In Britain, men seeking cosmetic surgery to deal with their embarassing "man breasts" is doubling the number of people who are undergoing liposuction.
Formally termed gynaecomastia, the exact cause of moobs (male boobs) is unknown. One theory, however, poses it could be caused by an excess of female hormones in tap water.
A British plastic surgeon reports that men come in and tell him, "I am in the gym all the time. I have these lovely pecs but the fat on the side of the flank will not budge." They feel liposuction will solve their problem.
Liposuction involves vacuuming the fat from areas. It has gone from the 8th to the 3rd most popular operation in Britain.
Today people have a different outlook on cosmetic surgery. They no longer consider it something reserved for the rich or wackos. As a plastic surgeon expressed it, “Plastic surgery is now considered to be permissible in our culture.”
According to the Sunday Times article, recent photographs of British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Conservative Leader David Cameron reveal they are developing moobs.
I don't know if this condition is particularly widespread in the UK but there is indeed a website called Manboobs located there. The site proclaims "We're fat and we're proud." It also shows pictures of men showing off their man boobs proudly.
I agree with the article that exercise should always be the first choice before liposuction is considered. That is, if you regard this as a problem and some do.
