The Chinese New Year is just around the corner and it never coincides with the Gregorian calendar date of January 1st. It usually begins in February, the first month of the Chinese calendar. Most festivals celebrating the new year, last 15 days and is qui
In 2007, February 18th is the date (2006 it was Feb 07) and 2007 is the Year of the Pig, or more accurately a boar. Your Chinese horoscope is very detailed and is comprised of several calendars that are laboriously combined to display your life's destiny.
The Chinese calendar combines the Zodiac, the five elements of Chinese thought, calendrical cycles based on astronomy, and ancient Chinese religion.
It is said that to bear children in the Year of the Pig (associated with fertility and virility) is very fortunate and anyone born a Pig, will grow to be happy and honest.
The twelve animals of the Chinese Zodiac are; Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. Apparently each person has inner and outer animals based on other things like birth month, the lunar months, and the hour of birth. Already this is too complicated for me. Whew!
The five elements are; Metal, Wood, Fire, Water and Earth which are also used in the practice of Feng Shui.
Most city's will have a 15 day festival to coincide with this celebration, so check your local listing, or your city's website, during the month of February for events in your area.
