Model suing Montreal hospital after leg amputated

By Brandigal (Donna)     Jan 26, 2007 in Health
A model who contracted flesh-eating disease and had her leg amputated after a routine operation is suing the hospital.
Racky Diack is suing the Montreal General hospital for 2 million dollars. She went into the hospital to get an abscess removed from her back. The surgery was routine and she would have been discharged in 5 days.
Right after the surgery, she contracted flesh eating disease which resulted in the loss of her leg and ended up in the hospital for 5 months.
They are suing because they said the hospital did not have a piece of equipment that is called VAC therapy which is used to treat wound infections.
Her lawyer is saying if they had of used this on her when the first signs of the disease had shown they could have confined the infection and she would not have lost her leg.
She can no longer model she said. She is using crutches for now. She was discovered for modeling in Paris while she was walking down the street.
So scary going into a hospital now. Even the simplest of surgeries can be life threatening now with all the other infections around.
