"Wildlife officials credited a woman with saving her husband's life by clubbing a mountain lion that attacked him while the couple were hiking in a California state park."
Jim and Nell Hamm, who will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary next month, were hiking in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park when the lion pounced, officials said Thursday.
Nell Hamm, the savior, was hiking with her husband, when the mountain lion attacked her suddenly. The animal quickly pounced on her husband, who couldn't cry for help in a state of panic. She found a log and started to beat the animal, but it didn't let go of her husband. The husband told her to take the pen from his pocket and poke at its eyes,
I don't know whether that is the technique to employ, but this technique didn't work. So Nell Hamm had no choice but to keep hitting the mountain lion and eventually the animal let go of her husband. Thus she saved her husband's life.
They are both experienced hikers and never had encountered these mountain lions before. Jim Hamm was in fair condition, he had to have his lips stitched back together and underwent surgery for lacerations on his head and body.
Nell Hamm doesn't credit herself for this brave act, she said both she and her husband fought together to ward off this attack and warned others not to travel or hike alone amidst these wild areas. The game wardens hunted two Mountain lions and killed it, and are testing whether one of these mountain lions attacked Jim Hamm.
Glad she saved her husband, but I want to ask you why do they have to kill these wild animals for this? Is there a way they can put a fence around the protected areas? Because I hear similar stories all across the world, the first thing they do is hunt and kill either that animal or all the animals.
