Record Store Day has become an international effort to bring people back to purchasing hard-copies of recordings along with preserving local record stores as viable businesses. Each year, as this event has grown, more and more record labels and artists do special releases to entice consumers to these businesses.
As one of RSD14's official sponsors, it's expected that Warner Bros. Records would bring some really exciting things to the party. Well, they have not disappointed. Start with a colored double vinyl package, CD or cassette of Green Day's
Demolicious. This is a collection of eighteen previously unreleased demos.
Next up? The Flaming Lips gets a very limited 12" vinyl pressing (7500 copies) of
7 SKIES H3. This disc takes a 24 - hour song and crafts it into 10 tracks that run 50 minutes. The 'Lips also bring
Gates Of Steel on a 7" silver vinyl disc to the event. This pressing is limited to 7500 copies. Finally there is a TFL reprint of a vintage t-shirt that is designed by Wayne Coyne.
Foals: Live at the Royal Albert Hall is a single-pocket jacket, 12" vinyl that is limited to 3,000 copies. The disc is eight live tracks. Inside there is a download card for two bonus tracks.
Jay Z teamed up with Linkin Park for
Collision Course on transparent blue colored vinyl. This reissue was originally released on November 30th, 2004. The Record Store Day edition includes a DVD of a live performance by both artists.
LCD Soundsystem is coming in large with live recordings done at Madison Square Garden.
The Long Goodbye lives up to its title, a 5 LP set with download card. It is limited to 3,000 units. This special box set will be released exclusively on Record Store Day 2014 over a month before it is available anywhere else.
Mastodon is also doing it live with
Live At Brixton , a 2 -LP, 180 gram vinyl w/ DVD. Only 2,000 units will be available.
Regina Spektor and The Wild Feathers round out the special music releases.
