Grammy-nominated R&B songstress Tamar Braxton chatted about her upcoming headlining show in New York City's Irving Plaza and her latest CD.
She was a guest artist on R&B veteran R. Kelly's tour and her own headlining "Love and War" tour, commenced on May 16 in Miami, Florida. "It is a dream come true and every time I walk on stage, I think the best of it and I have a good time every time," she said. "It was a really good experience opening up for R. Kelly."
Overjoyed, Braxton could not contain her excitement for her May 28 concert in New York's Irving Plaza. "I finally get to do my own concert, and have a good time. I am so excited about it," she said.
Her Love and War album, which she released on Streamline/Epic Records, catapulted to No. 1 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart and the iTunes R&B Albums charts, as well as No. 2 on the Billboard 200 all-genre charts, all of which were unexpected for Braxton. "Sometimes, I can't wrap my head around what has happened to me in the past year, and everybody loving and respecting my music is all that I could ever ask for," she said.
Braxton shared that she is artistic and she enjoys writing songs, since it is a "very therapeutic" process.
Braxton garnered three Grammy nominations this year, which she dubbed as an "amazing" feeling. "I had no idea that I was even considered. It feels amazing to be recognized among your peers, and for people to recognize you for your hard work," she said.
Aside from her musical endeavors, she is a television producer and personality, as well as the younger sister of Grammy-winning R&B star Toni Braxton. "Honestly, I love every single thing that I do, and everything that I do, I wear a different hat on," she said.
Her proudest moment in her life involves becoming a mother. "I never thought that would happen to me and I cannot believe I have this bundle of joy. It is so much fun watching him. He is just the completion of a beautiful dream that I had when I was a little girl," she said.
The R&B sensation noted that she is working on her second studio album. "It's coming together so fast and so great, and I cannot wait to share it with everyone," she said with enthusiasm.
Braxton listed John Legend as her dream male duet choice and praised him for his humility and talent. "He is a musical genius and so grounded and so cool. I respect his music," she said.
She concluded by thanking her fans. "I love you so much and thank you for supporting me, and I cannot wait to come to your city."
Success, for Tamar Braxton, means "being happy and waking up every day without having any regrets about life." "Whether you have money or not, has nothing to do with it. Success is setting a goal and reaching it," she concluded.
