Platinum-selling pop singer and songwriter Ryan Cabrera chatted about his highly-anticipated upcoming fifth studio album.
He is best known for such hit singles as "On The Way Down," the ballad "True" and "I Will Remember You," and as Digital Journal previously reported, he partnered with Dynamite Music for new material.
In 2009, he began writing his fifth studio album, however, the inspiration did not quite click right away, so he continued to jot down his thoughts and emotions over the years. The musician also took on painting, where he decked out his home with original artwork, enjoying his own personal renaissance. "We needed to get the right team behind it. I didn't want just to put an album out, I wanted the right mixing engineers and the right people mastering it, and it all came together in the last year and a half," he said. "I wanted to do this the right way, and I didn't want to compromise the sound of the record just to put something out. It ended up working out I wanted to, so it was worth waiting."
Aside from his music, Cabrera has spent meaningful time at hospitals around the country, where he has cheered up countless sick children and young adults. This inspired him to launch a live music series, "Live From Ryan's Living Room," which aired bi-monthly. He used StageIt's official website as a platform to broadcast these live performances from his living room, where all of the proceeds from his online ticket sales went towards various charities. "Those are really fun. Eventually, we will have our own website where people can watch them for those that cannot tune in live," he said.

His music series included cameos from such fellow singer-songwriters as Colbie Caillat, Gavin DeGraw, Billy Ray Cyrus and We The Kings. "We jam in our house anyway, and a lot of my friends, even the up-and-coming ones are so talented. I want to give them a platform to get out there, because they are so damn good," he said.
While there is no particular theme for this new album, he noted that it is "pretty positive and upbeat." "A lot of the songs are really just about enjoying life and one song deals with a relationship and what I learned from it. The album has a really positive outlook on the different things that have gone on in my life, and the things that I went through," he said. "I think it's the kind of record that you want to put the top down and cruise and hang with your friends and party."
He continued, "I think will be surprised and excited that I took my time with it. At the end of the day, I wanted to give them the best songs that I could write, and hopefully people will hear that and appreciate it."
Cabrera collaborated on this project with veteran producer Justin Gray, who has worked with such artists as Mariah Carey, John Legend and the late Amy Winehouse. Both of them wrote and performed the majority of the album, and they even played all of the instruments themselves.
There is no official release date yet for the CD, but he hopes to have it out around fall 2014. For his latest project, he wants the music to speak for itself, and knowing Cabrera that will certainly be the case.
Cabrera's dream duet choices have been consistent throughout the years, with him naming his musical hero Dave Matthews, Pink and Jessie J as his collaboration favorites. He also added British sensation Sam Smith to that elite group of dream collaborations. "Sam is one of my favorite singers right now," he said.
