Country singer Rose Falcon talks about her No. 1 song as a songwriter, for co-penning "Friday Night," as well as her latest endeavors in music and her marriage to Rodney Atkins.
This past February, Falcon celebrated her first No. 1 song as a songwriter, for co-writing Eric Paslay's "Friday Night," with co-writers Paslay and Rob Crosby. "Eric is a great artist and he is super-cool and a nice guy too. "
She shared that he wrote "If Love Had a Heart" with songwriter Tommy Lee James, whom she praised as an "awesome writer." "Tommy and I got together to write, and I just had that idea about that line 'if love had a heart,' and he added 'then it wouldn't break mine,' and I felt that was perfect. It was on my birthday two years ago, so it was the best birthday gift to write that song, and to be able to get in my car and just listen to it and be proud. It made my day, because whenever you write a great song, that's pretty much the best feeling in the world," she said.
Regarding her plans for the future, Falcon remarked, "I am writing for a new record and I am looking at different producers. I write all of the songs, so that's taken care of, but then it's a matter of how to treat the songs and how you want them to sound like, and who you want to work with. I am at a place where I have more time to make conscious decisions. I am not in a rush and I want to treat the songs as special as they are, and make a record that people really enjoy listening to. I like records you can just put on and leave on, not ones that you can skip over certain songs."
Last June, Falcon became engaged to Academy of Country Music (ACM) award-winning country artist Rodney Atkins, and they subsequently married in November. "Married life is awesome," she said. "I enjoy having one really good friend that I get to spend all my time with. I'm a one-on-one person, and I really prefer sitting in a room face-to-face, instead of a group, so being married is the perfect scenario for me since I have a partner to do everything with," she said.
Speaking of Atkins, she listed him as her ideal duet partner. "For starters, it would be my husband and we are working on a few things right now. I grew up singing with my father, so the idea of doing a duet with somebody that is close to me, is so comforting, since while you are on stage, you feel like you are in your living room or at home, since you know that they are going to take it somewhere else," she said.
A New York native, Falcon is drawn to country music due to its honesty. "I really prefer listening to songs that tell a story and have truth in them. I like songs that I can relate to. I love the honesty of traditional country music," she said.
