article imageReview: The Band Perry captivates New York's Madison Square Garden Special

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 2, 2014 in Music
New York - Country group The Band Perry played a show at New York's Madison Square Garden on August 1, opening for country superstar Blake Shelton.
They commenced their set with their spitfire, break-up anthem "DONE," and they followed it up with "Night Gone Wasted," a track from their latest album Pioneer.
"You Lie" was another upbeat tune and the chart-topping single "All Your Life" was more subtle yet beautiful.
They showcased their ability to rock on their latest Top 10 single "Chainsaw" and Neil and Reid covered Queen's classic hit "Fat Bottomed Girls."
"Don't Let Me Be Lonely" was one of my favorite vocals of their set this evening, which was a controlled and soothing rendition, and they slightly changed it from the original recording, which was a nice treat.
The Band Perry allowed the New York audience to sing the first verse of "If I Die Young" all by themselves and they praised them for sounding "beautiful."
"Can we sing it as one big family?" Kimberly Perry asked, prior to delivering a solid rendition of "If I Die Young" with her brothers on their velvet harmonies.
For their closing number,"Better Dig Two," the stage included a skeletal background on the screens and it featured a haunting vocal performance followed by an incredible drum solo that all three members participated in, which seemed like a great deal of fun.
"Have a great time with Mr. Blake Shelton," they told their fans, while leaving the stage.
The Verdict
One thing's for sure, The Band Perry is not in the hills of East Tennessee anymore. They played a well-received show in the heart of New York City, in the world's largest arena, Madison Square Garden. This marked my second time seeing them play live within a matter of a few weeks, and they did a superb job yet again. Their concert garnered an A rating.
