Review: Taylor Swift ethereal on new music video for ‘Wildest Dreams’ (Includes first-hand account)

She co-wrote this ballad with both of her co-producers, Max Martin and Shellback. Her vocals are controlled, crisp and soothing, where it has a Civil Wars vibe to it (similar to her “Safe and Sound” duet with them). It has a neat orchestral arrangement and a pulsating beat which help elevate it to a higher level.

Her music video, which premiered on the pre-show of the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), is visually striking with a remarkable cinematography. Joseph Kahn has done a brilliant job directing “Wildest Dreams.” The video has a retro vibe to it, set in the first half of the 20th century, which is reminiscent of such films as Aviator meets Out of Africa, and it features a cameo from Clint Eastwood’s son, heartthrob actor Scott Eastwood, who portrays Swift’s love interest.

Most impressive is the fact that she is raising funds to donate to the wild animal conservation efforts, and the footage of the wild animals, makes one appreciate the video and Swift even more, for her efforts.

The Verdict

Overall, Taylor Swift has outdone herself again with her soulful “Wildest Dreams” music video. It garners an A rating. Congratulations for yet another well-crafted video.
