article imageReview: Swedish country artist Hicks takes fans on a 'Hayride' Special

By Markos Papadatos     Jun 13, 2014 in Music
Swedish country artist Hicks will release his up-tempo radio single "Hayride" on June 30, via his record label, MTS Records.
Born Miqael Persson, he is an award-winning songwriter from the south of Sweden, with multiple gold and platinum albums to his credit. His tunes have been recorded by such artists as Jimi Jamison (Survivor), Giant (Dann Huff), Bobby Kimball (Toto), and Little River Band, among others.
Hicks is an Independent Country Music Association (ICMA) award nominee, a 2014 Nashville Universe Award nominee and the 2013 British Country Music Association's "European Country Act of the Year." He represented Sweden at the CMA Music Fest in 2013.
His new single "Hayride" was co-penned by Hicks and Lasse Andersson and it is found on his album Rock N Roll Cowboy. It lasts a little over 2.5 minutes and it is a great deal of fun and a high-energy, toe-stomping tune.
He is a man with a lot of guts, especially since he filmed the song's music video in extremely cold weather conditions (-3 degrees Fahrenheit) and was able to make it through.
One can never tell that he is originally from Sweden, since there are no traces of an accent in his voice. Hicks emerges as a contemporary Ted Nugent, where he knows how to work the electric guitar. It makes the listeners feel as if they were in the front row of his concerts. It garners 4 out of 5 stars.
