Review: R5 puts on amazing show at The Paramount in New York (Includes first-hand account)

They shared the stage with DJ Ryland and teen singer Jacob Whitesides, both of which served as their opening acts.

R5 began their set with their new song, the upbeat and fun “All Night,” which featured Ross and Riker on vocals, as they had the audience jumping along with them.

They immediately broke into “Heart Made Up On You,” and Ross greeted the crowd. “What’s up? This is our third time playing The Paramount. Let’s have a good time tonight,” he said.

R5 sang their infectious single “Let’s Not Be Alone Tonight,” which was a fan-favorite in the early portion of their set. Riker went on to thank the Long Island radio station 106.1 BLI, for bringing them on. “I like how this night is going so far,” Riker said.

“Dark Side” was mid-tempo yet laid-back, while “Cali Girls” was sassy and fun, as the stage was graced in vibrant lights, as Rocky nailed the lead guitar.

After Ross through a guitar pick in the crowd, they continued with “Easy Love,” as they interacted well with the audience. They ended this song as a sing-along with their fans.

They took their fans back to the first song they ever recorded, “Loud,” where they reminded the audience to take care of each other, to be kind to each other and that they are here to appreciate the music. Their version of “Loud” was raw and captivating, and it showcased Ross’ wide vocal range

R5 immediately continued with “I Know You Got Away” and they covered a nostalgic version of Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy.”

Rydel took the stage to sing lead on the spitfire tune “Lightning Strikes” and she was fabulous, channeling her inner rock star. Ross showcased his prowess on keyboards by paying tribute to Lady Gaga, covering her piano-driven ballad “You and I.”

Their cover of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” was funky, and the same was true for “F.E.E.L.G.O.O.D.” Most impressive was the fact that the song’s title appeared on the televised screen in the background.

“Repeating Days” was yet another new song from their latest album and they had their fans jumping on “Did You Have Your Fun?”

They went on to praise The Paramount as one of their favorite venues in the world, prior to encouraging their fans to make some noise. Another crowd favorite was their soaring rendition of (I Can’t) Forget About You.

R5 wrapped up their remarkable set with such songs as “Wild Hearts,” “Ain’t No Way We’re Goin’ Home” and “Smile.”

The Verdict

Overall, R5’s show at The Paramount in Huntington was superb. They prove that they get better with each and every live performance. They had the audience in the palm of their hands the entire time, and they showcased their warm personalities. Each band member was afforded their chance to shine, and they all rocked. Their concert garnered 5 out of 5 stars.
