Her song is feisty and it is a soaring break-up song, led by Lane’s husky voice. She co-wrote it with such songwriters as Ilya Toshinskiy and Danny Myrick, the latter of which co-penned Jason Aldean’s “She’s Country.” It was the most-added single by a female artist on country radio.
“No way, no how, Let me make it crystal right now, I got a brand new, know myself attitude, And I don’t need another, another you part 2,” she sings, in her deep voice.
Lane’s music video for “You Part 2” is equally fun and sassy, and it was filmed in Nashville. It starts with a texting conversation between her and her ex-boyfriend, who is listed as “Don’t Answer” on her mobile phone, prior to officially ending their relationship. The songstress is at a house party, where she meets up with her former flame, but she refuses to return to him. Her song is sassy with a liberating message to it. She even raps in one of its verses, which is an added bonus.
She was recognized this year as an “Artist to Watch” by Country Music Television (CMT) thanks to the success of her breakthrough single “Steal Me Away.” This past May, she was featured as an emerging artist, who was one of only five country acts to make the Top 25 for Macy’s iHeartRadio Rising Star competition, along with fellow country star Chris Lane. She has shared the stage with such artists as Wynonna, Frankie Ballard and Randy Houser, and she will be playing with country singers RaeLynn and Easton Corbin throughout this summer.
The Verdict
Overall, Olivia Lane’s new single “You Part 2” garners 4 out of 5 stars. She showcases a great deal of potential to make it in the country scene. Judging from the radio adds, her song is off to a great start.
