By Markos Papadatos     Aug 19, 2014 in Music
Huntington - On August 18, Nick Tangorra Band played at The Paramount in Huntington, Long Island, while opening for rapper Jake Miller.
Nick and his band members (Rafe and Will) were all dressed in suits and ties. They also had saxophone, trombone and trumpet players, which was an added treat.
He commenced his set with an upbeat cover of Bruno Mars' "Runaway Baby," as the stage was graced in green lights.
"Paramount, you feel good?" Nick asked, prior to noting that he was honored to be playing here tonight, especially he would attend shows here as a music fan.
It was followed by "Teenage Love" as the stage was decorated in red and yellow lights, which was well-received.
After thanking the BLI radio station and headliner Jake Miller for having them at this concert, he broke into a rendition of 5 Seconds of Summer's hit single "She Looks So Perfect," which was infectious and it resonated well with the teenage girls.
"Are any of you guys on YouTube?" Tangorra asked, and revealed that he and his band had put the following video up on the social network, prior to delivering their own unique rendition of Ariana Grande's "Problem," where they were able to get the crowd to sing along with them. His vocals were crisp and smooth and the saxophone complimented the song quite well.
Following "Problem," Nick introduced the members in his band, where his musical director, Rafe, delivered his drum solo.
He continued with his sultry and upbeat version of Amy Winehouse's "Valerie," which proved that although he may be a teenage pop star, he has an old soul, which ought to be taken as a compliment.
They closed their set with "Juliet."
Aside from Nick on lead vocals, the Nick Tangorra Band consists of Will Ahrens on guitar and backing vocals, as well as his brother, drummer Rafe Tangorra, who also serves as the musical director of the group.
The Verdict
Overall, Nick Tangorra Band put on a solid mini-concert at The Paramount. Nick had good stage presence and it is great to see a fellow Long Islander and his band succeed in the pop music industry. We wish them nothing but bigger and better things to come. Their show garnered 4 out of 5 stars.
