Twenty-year-old pop newcomer Meghan Trainor is making an impact in the music industry thanks to her breakthrough single "All About That Bass."
Trainor co-wrote the tune with her producer, Grammy nominee Kevin Kadish. She is signed to Epic Records. Her song catapulted into the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, sitting at No. 8, for the week of August 16, 2014. After charting for four weeks, it jumped up 20 spots from the previous week, and its vibrant music video has gone viral on YouTube.
"Yeah, my mama she told me don't worry about your size, She says boys like a little more booty to hold at night," Trainor sings.
The songstress takes a firm stance in that she won't be a "stick figure silicone Barbie doll" type and if that is what they are looking for, the boys ought to go ahead and move along.
A major reason for its critical success is that it is an anthem of female empowerment, and it inspires people to feel better about themselves in their own skin. It has a message for one to accept their own bodies and feel comfortable with the way that they are. The song has elements of pop, rock, soul and even country in there, which makes it diverse.
The Verdict
Meghan Trainor's vocals on "All About That Bass" are crisp and smooth, and it is bound to have a positive effect on her listeners due to its optimistic theme. She proves that she is all about the music, and she allows it to speak for itself. It garners an A- rating, and it is a harbinger for bigger things to come.
