Review: Marina and The Diamonds enchanting on Cyndi Lauper cover (Includes first-hand account)

Marina’s vocals on “True Colors” are haunting, crisp and enchanting. She is not afraid to display her vulnerability as a contemporary recording artist, and she does this song more than justice. Cyndi Lauper would be smiling upon this beautiful rendition. The song was written by Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg, and it was subsequently produced by David Kosten. Her ethereal vocals are reminiscent of Amy Lee from the Grammy-winning group Evanescence.

Marina and The Diamonds is on the Atlantic Records label roster.

The Verdict

Overall, Marina and The Diamonds‘ cover of “True Colors” garners an A rating. The song is so positive and optimistic, and her twist is quite refreshing, thus introducing it to a brand new audience. It is worth more than just a passing glance, and it showcases her ability to take any song and make it her own.
