Review: Maddie & Tae superb on breakthrough country album ‘Start Here’ (Includes first-hand account)

The album was produced by veteran guitarist and producer Dann Huff, and Maddie & Tae co-wrote all of the 11 tracks. It begins with “Waitin’ On A Plane” and it immediately breaks into their sassy smash hit single “Girl In A Country Song,” the latter of which has been certified gold, and “Smoke.”

“Shut Up And Fish” is a fun tune, while their latest radio single “Fly” is a mellifluous ballad that highlights their gorgeous harmony vocals. They showcase their rebellious side on “Sierra,” and “Your Side Of Town” is uptempo and reminiscent of a quintessential Miranda Lambert song.

“Right Here, Right Now” is upbeat and rocking, while they take their fans on a travel adventure with “No Place Like You.” “After the Storm Blows Through” is a melancholic ballad that really tugs at the heartstrings, due to its optimistic and heartfelt lyrics. Their album closes on a soothing note with the crystalline “Downside Of Growing Up.”

The Verdict

Overall, Maddie & Tae deliver on their newest studio album Start Here. Many of the songs on this release are compelling and relatable. It is great to hear female artists again on the country radio airwaves. This CD garners 4.5 out of 5 stars.
