Review: Maddie & Tae delight at Dylan’s Candy Bar in New York City (Includes first-hand account)

This show celebrated the release of their debut studio album, Start Here. They thanked New York’s country radio station, Nash FM 94.7, for playing their breakthrough single and for believing in them.

“I hope you guys hear your own stories in this one,” they said, prior to singing their latest radio single “Fly,” which featured their soaring harmonies, as they accompanied themselves on acoustic guitars.

Maddie & Tae shared the fact that they performed on the Today show in the morning, and they thanked their loyal fans for being there so early in the morning.

Tae revealed that her favorite song on the album is “Shut Up and Fish,” and she went on to deliver a sassy rendition of the tune, as Maddie played mandolin and sang harmonies.

Now it was Maddie’s turn to sing her personal favorite vocal on the album, a gorgeous version of the ballad “Downside of Growing Up,” which they sang as they would a beautiful lullaby. This tune deserves to be a radio single at some point in the future. They went on to introduce their talented band members to the audience.

They closed their set with their debut radio single “Girl In A Country Song,” which was their first chart-topper. “Thank you guys for being huge believers and for helping it go No. 1,” they concluded.

The Verdict

Overall, Maddie & Tae put on a magnificent mini-concert at Dylan’s Candy Bar in New York. These gifted female musicians sounded even better live than they did on their studio recording, and that ought to be taken as a major compliment. Their live show earned an A rating. Well done.
