article imageReview: Lee Ann Womack's 'The Way I'm Livin'': Best country album of 2014 Special

By Markos Papadatos     Sep 27, 2014 in Music
Country songstress Lee Ann Womack has released the best country album of the year with "The Way I'm Livin'," which came out on Sugar Hill Records.
It opens with the haunting yet crystalline ballad "Prelude: Fly" and it is followed by the upbeat, Mindy Smith-penned "All His Saints," as well as the gorgeous traditional ballad "Chances Are."
Her title track lead single "The Way I'm Livin'" is sheer vocal perfection, which Digital Journal described as "mesmerizing." The piano-driven "Send It On Down" is a soothing, Christian tune. "Don't Listen to the Wind" is soaring, backed by neat fiddle instrumentation, while "Same Kind of Different" is hypnotic with meaningful lyrics.
"Out on the Weekend" was penned by Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Neil Young, who would be pleased with Womack's delicate delivery of the vocal. "Nightwind" is another stunning ballad, which showcases her heavenly voice.
"Sleeping with the Devil" is upbeat and refreshing, and "Not Forgotten You" is equally beautiful, featuring strong harmonies.
It closes with the up-tempo "Tomorrow Night In Baltimore" and the inspirational ballad "When I Come Around," both of which ought to be put on repeat, as should the entire album.
The Verdict
Lee Ann Womack's latest album is utterly fantastic. It earns 5 out of 5 stars. This album deserves to be nominated for and win "Album of the Year" at the 2015 Academy of Country Music (ACM) awards. It is flawless from start to finish with no filler tracks. Womack's voice is an eighth world wonder: mellifluous, powerful, heart-breaking, captivating and timeless. It doesn't get any better than her. This is the album that should also lead to a "Top Female Vocalist" honor for Womack at a future country music award ceremony. Congratulations Lee Ann for a stellar musical effort.
