Acclaimed actor Don Cheadle introduced Lamar prior to his performance. The medley of hits he performed were “The Blacker the Berry” and “Alright,” both of which were tracks from his critically-acclaimed studio album, To Pimp a Butterfly.
His stellar live Grammy performance was a true work of art, which included pyrotechnics, and his songs were authentic and raw, and sung with maximum soul and charisma.
An 11-time Grammy nominee last evening, Lamar took home five Grammy awards which included wins for “Best Rap Album,” “Best Rap Performance” for “Alright,” “Best Rap/Sung Collaboration” for “These Walls” and “Best Rap Song” for “Alright”; moreover, his collaboration with Taylor Swift for “Bad Blood” took home the Grammy award for “Best Music Video.”
The Verdict
Overall, this year’s Grammy awards belonged to Lamar and Lady Gaga (who gave an exceptional tribute to the late David Bowie). Not only did Lamar win five Grammy trophies, but his politically-charged performance left a lasting impression in the hearts of the audience members, and his peers in the industry.
