Sydney - Global music superstar Katy Perry released her "The Prismatic World Tour Live" DVD and Blu-ray and digital download on October 30, via Eagle Rock Entertainment with Capitol Records.
The collection opens with her smash hit "Roar," which features a grand-scale production, with dancers and acrobats, that is reminiscent of a quintessential Madonna concert, as well as vibrant laser lights. Perry is back with a vengeance with a spitfire performance of "Part of Me."
Perry continued with "Wide Awake," which she performed on an elevated platform, as she displayed her wide vocal range. "May I welcome you to my 'Prismatic World Tour.' Are you ready?" she asked her fans in Sydney, Australia, where the DVD was filmed. "Are you ready to be under the same roof for the next two hours, breathing the same air?" Perry asked.
"Are you ready to be singing the same songs?" the songstress added, prior to underscoring the importance of time, while she encouraged her fans to be in "this moment." Perry showed her audience how to have a good time on the dance track "This Moment."
"Dark Horse" was infectious and she was dressed as Queen Cleopatra, which was a noteworthy comparison, especially since Perry is the reigning queen of modern pop. It was followed by "E.T." and the gorgeous ballad "Legendary Lovers," where her dancers were dressed as Pharaohs.
She took her fans on a trip down memory lane with "I Kissed a Girl," where her stage was graced in yellow laser lights. Her version of "Hot N Cold" was sultry, with a neat arrangement to it, where her band-mates and Perry were dressed as cats. "International Smile" was upbeat and fun, and she subsequently dedicated the piano-driven "By the Grace of God" to her fans, whom she affectionately dubs as her "KatyCats."
Perry accompanied herself on acoustic guitar on "The One That Got Away" and "Thinking of You." She went on to thank all of the fans in the venue, as well as the ones that are watching. "Thank you for supporting me on my journey. I hope you are there every step of the way. I love you unconditionally," Perry said, prior to singing her power-ballad "Unconditionally." "Let's make this arena glow," Perry said, encouraging the crowd to light it up with their lighters.
She picked up the pace with the fun dance number "Walking on Air" and she tugged at the heart with "It Takes Two," where she showcased her ethereal voice. "This Is How We Do" was sassy and fun, while "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" had an 80s vibe to it.
"Is it all right if I'm your 'teenage dream' tonight?" she asked the audience, and they concurred, prior to singing the highlight tune of the night, her signature song "Teenage Dream," which was sheer perfection.
"Let's take a little trip to the West Coast. Are you ready?" she asked, and immediately broke into "California Gurls."
"So you don't want to go home yet? Do you?" she asked. "If you still want to celebrate get up out of your seats. We're going to party like it's your birthday." Her finale performance of "Birthday" was quite memorable, since she brought a lucky female onstage with her, who was celebrating her birthday at her show. It was followed by a birthday seat and Perry flying into the crowd, while balloons were dropping from the venue's ceiling with confetti drizzling from the stage.
For her encore, Perry returned to sing her inspirational song "Firework," as she wore a spectacular dress, and as her fans wore their "Time for Prism Vision" glasses.
The Verdict
Overall, Katy Perry was amazing on her newest DVD collection. She puts on an incredible two-hour live show that is worth seeing with the entire family. It is no wonder that Perry is the most-followed person on Twitter. Russell Thomas does a brilliant job directing this DVD. It garners an A+ rating.
