article imageReview: Justin Moore and Vince Neil deliver on classic Motley Crue song Special

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 22, 2014 in Music
Country star Justin Moore delights on his version of the Motley Crue power-ballad "Home Sweet Home," as a collaboration with Vince Neil from the group.
"Home Sweet Home" is a track from the new album Nashville Outlaws: A Tribute to Mötley Crüe, which pays homage to the iconic heavy metal group, as well as its lead single. The CD was released on August 19 on the record label, Big Machine Records.
The classic metal tune was co-written by Tommy Lee (drummer and founding member), bassist and co-founder Nikki Sixx and Vince Neil, the lead singer of Motley Crue.
While it has been covered by country singer Carrie Underwood and used as an exit song on season 8 of American Idol, I prefer Justin Moore's version, since he brings something different to it. Moore sings with a lot more conviction and one can tell that Motley Crue was an influence on his sound, growing up in Arkansas.
Vince Neil, who joins him on this song and its music video, compliments Moore's baritone vocals and twang quite well. The song's production by Jeremy Stover is solid, featuring electric guitars, bass, organ, drums and backing vocals from Neil himself.
"My heart's like an open book, For the whole world to read, Sometimes nothing, Keeps me together, At the seams," Moore sings, and makes this song his own (where the listener can recall Moore's chart-topping single "If Heaven Wasn't So Far Away").
The country fans are loving it and it is already climbing up the charts, breaking the Top 35 on the Billboard Hot Country Airplay charts and the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts respectively.
The Verdict
Overall, Justin Moore is able to deliver on "Home Sweet Home," and he is able to introduce the metal classic to a brand new audience, his country fan-base. He deserves 4 out of 5 stars, and I'm sure Motley Crue is proud of this soaring rendition.
