article imageReview: Joey + Rory amazing on new 'Hymns' studio album Special

By Markos Papadatos     Feb 20, 2016 in Music
Country duo Joey + Rory have released their new "Hymns" studio album, and it is absolutely fantastic from start to finish.
Their CD opens with the tender ballad "Take My Hand, Precious Lord," where Joey's vocals are pure as the driven snow. It is followed by the atmospheric "I Surrender All," which is sung as a beautiful lullaby. "He Touched Me" features an exquisite fiddle solo, while "Softly And Tenderly" is yet another gentle vocal performance from the husband and wife duo.
Joey and Rory's version of "Jesus Loves Me" is upbeat and delicate, and "It Is Well With My Soul" is another beautiful ballad. "The Old Rugged Cross" is melancholic yet heartfelt, while "I Need Thee Every Hour" is mellifluous. Their rendition of "How Great Thou Art" is piano-driven and empowering.
One of the highlight tracks is "I'll Fly Away," which has a liberating vibe to it. Rory harmonizes exceptional with his wife on "Jesus Paid It All," and "Suppertime" is crystalline. It closes on a tear-jerking note with the piano-driven "When I'm Gone."
The Verdict
Overall, Joey and Rory are excellent on their latest studio album, Hymns. They manage to make a superb connection with the hearts of their listeners. This gospel project earns 5 out of 5 stars.
