article imageReview: Jo Dee Messina delights on new album 'Me' Special

By Markos Papadatos     Mar 25, 2014 in Music
Country star Jo Dee Messina is back with her newest studio album "Me," which she released independently on her own label, on March 18.
It opens with the energetic and optimistic "Not Dead Yet," which she co-wrote, and it is followed by "Strong Shot of You."
"Love On A Maybe" is infectious and it showcases her clear and crystalline vocals and "Breakin' It Down" is yet another dynamic vocal.
"Peace Sign" is the album's lead-off single and the title track tune "Me," which she co-penned, is an emotional vocal masterpiece. It certainly ranks in one of my all-time favorite Jo Dee Messina songs along with "Burn" and "I'm Alright."
"Like a Kid Again" is a youthful and nostalgic song that many of her fans can easily relate to. The record's latest single "A Woman's Rant" is an upbeat spitfire tune that she wrote herself.
"Take It" is an up-tempo song that she nails yet again and "I'm Free" is an ode to liberation.
"He's Messed Up" is witty and it has a catchy chorus that is easy to sing along to. The 12-song CD closes with the moving ballad "Say Goodbye to Superman," which can easily be summed up as the best track on the record.
The Verdict
Overall, Jo Dee Messina delights on her brand new studio album Me. There are no filler tracks on here and it displays a great deal of sass, fun and energy. It garners 4.5 out of 5 stars. It definitely ranks as one of the best albums of her career.
