article imageReview: Jesse McCartney delivers on new album 'In Technicolor' Special

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 3, 2014 in Music
Singer-songwriter Jesse McCartney released his new album "In Technicolor" on July 22, which showcases his growth and maturity as an artist.
McCartney has evolved substantially since his "Beautiful Soul" era. He co-wrote all of the songs on this new collection that he released independently. His new album opens with the title track "In Technicolor Part 1," which is reminiscent of a quintessential Ne-Yo tune.
It is followed by the upbeat "Back Together," where he displays his impressive falsetto similar to Justin Timberlake and Mark Ballas (from Dancing with the Stars who is also a musician). "Young Love" has an infectious melody and it has a youthful vibe to it and it is refreshing.
"Superbad" shows his ability to take risks and try new things and "All About Us" has musical elements where the listener can easily recall the late "King of Pop" Michael Jackson.
"Checkmate" and "Punch Drunk Recreation" are noteworthy follow-up tracks on the album and while "Goodie Bag" was mediocre at best, "In Technicolor Part 2" was neat, especially since it picked up where the record's opener left off.
"Tie The Knot" is optimistic and ideal to listen to for dating couples who want to get married, and the closing track "The Other Guy" is my absolute favorite on the record. It is safe to say that he saved his best song for last. It is a piano-driven ballad and he sings with emotion in its conversational lyrics, by taking a firm stance against being the "other guy" in the relationship.
The Verdict
Overall, Jesse McCartney has co-written and recorded a solid new album with In Technicolor. Pop and R&B fans that have yet to listen to it are missing out on perhaps the best album in McCartney's career so far. It garners 4.5 out of 5 stars.
I look forward to hearing him sing these new songs live at The Paramount in Huntington, New York, in a few weeks.
