article imageReview: Jared Leto performs new single 'Do or Die' on 'Ellen' Special

By Markos Papadatos     Sep 27, 2014 in Music
Jared Leto and his band, Thirty Seconds to Mars, performed their new single "Do or Die" on "Ellen" and it was a wonderful performance.
Emmy-winning host Ellen DeGeneres made the introductory remarks, where she noted that Thirty Seconds to Mars has sold over 15 million albums.
Leto solely wrote and produced the song himself. "In the middle of the night, When the angels scream, I don't want to live a lie that I believe, Time to do or die," Leto sings.
Their live in-studio performance of "Do or Die" was equal in excellence to their live rendition at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in New York, where they performed as part of "The Carnivores" tour, along with Linkin Park. It also captured that same type of energy, depicting Jared Leto swinging the flag and inviting the audience near the stage with him towards the finale, as the Ellen stage was covered in confetti. His a-capella ending was also a real treat. "That's how the story goes," Leto sang in his powerhouse voice.
As Digital Journal reported, the group is nominated for an MTV EMA award for "Best Alternative."
The Verdict
Their performance of "Do or Die" on Ellen was yet another indication that Jared Leto is one of the most charismatic live performers in contemporary rock and alternative music, and his band, Thirty Seconds to Mars, is always able to put on a high-energy show, regardless of the venue, whether it is a giant stadium, amphitheater or even an intimate television studio setting.
